Shopping With a Massach

Nearly everyone likes shopping, but sadly materialism in most cases drains our soul.

Money is energy in the way, that our body and soul have desires. And often only through money we can afford those. So money per se is nothing negative, but our attachment to it is. Before we become spiritual we all bathe in the unconscious sea of our physical desires. We ran around buying us all sorts of things, but in a complete unconscious way. We always think we must satiate every desire instantly. And so we're busy with buying all kinds of books we often don't even read or tons of clothes we barely wear, etc.

Becoming spiritual means to develop a resistant force. First I was like a donkey always running after its food. The Kabbalists wrote, that even the donkey's eyes you must cover if it's running the whole day in a circle around a mill. When our egoism would become instantly revealed to us in the fullest measure we couldn't stand it. When it becomes revealed a bit we become depressive.

One who has disclosed how much his own egoism is harming himself in life is coming to Kabbalah. In the first years I might have to work on my intentions. I'm still a slave of my ego, but now I want to develop a genuine desire to come closer to the Creator. When someone is completely ready to leave his old self behind, it means that he will leave his own Egypt — his own slavery. But now before we enter the promised land, where everything is perfect, we must journey 40 years through the desert. Those 40 years are not physical years, but spiritual degrees of correction, where we try to attain the properties of bestowal.

When I leave my own Egypt, it means that I'm ready to perform a complete restriction. I recognize how much my ego harmed me, and I'm now ready to leave my state of spiritual exile completely. This means I'm ready to receive absolutely nothing, but in this state I recognize, that I'm created as a vessel to receive. Thus, I begin to use my desires in order to bestow. Those desires I can use I lift with a force called Massach (screen or curtain in English). This screen first pushes the pleasure back. But when I'm now ready to use this pleasure to connect it with the intention to bring contentment upon the Creator, it becomes a new sort of vessel, which doesn't receive the pleasure just selfishly.

We shouldn't imagine spirituality only as an abstract domain completely detached from physicality. Rather physicality is the expression of the things that exist in the spiritual, which are now expressing themselves in time and space. And so our physical existence is like a mirror of that which we have achieved spiritually. I can possess little, but those little things might mirror spiritual perfection. Or I can possess a lot, but my life is despite a complete mess. How often have we seen people possessing expensive houses and cars, but whose life is spirituality a desert of poverty. Because they haven't connected their physical aspect with the world of the Creator.

When we want to achieve the spiritual world we must first be ready to completely nullify ourselves. When we do this the Creator comes to us, and will offer us now pleasures that come from our soul — our sixth sense so to say. We in our inner space of consciousness say then, like 'this I can take without falling into unconsciousness again'. So we shall be first ready to receive just a little in life, but with full awareness until we can slowly step by step increase our vessel.

How often have we seen, when people, that are a bit spiritual, fall back very soon into materialism and selfishness after they for example gained a lot of money or are too busy with their business matters. This can be compared to a short circuit, the amount of pleasure was too intense to receive, and so I completely lose my intention to receive for the sake of spirituality. And so we must be ready to receive just a little first, and when we can handle this with the right intention, we can manage the bigger amounts.
