We don't only exist with our physical body in this world, but we at the same time — if we're conscious of it or not — exist as well in the other world with our astral body, which we often call ‘Ruach' in Kabbalah.
In this other world there exist countries, continents with their own inhabitants, similar to our world. There I also exist with a body of subtle energy, and I can surround myself with different spiritual forces or astral forms, which we call 'clothes' or 'dressings' in Kabbalah (Levushim in Hebrew). And there are existing places for several souls to meet, which are called 'palaces' (Heikhalot in Hebrew). When I know someone who is as well in spiritual attainment I can meet his soul in the upper world, surround myself with different 'clothings', and can interact or communicate with him. We can create our own astral worlds there. When we leave our physical body after death, we will enter a space, which is equal to the images and forms of our subconsciousness, and we might meet there souls, that have passed away earlier in our former life. It is said, that every Righteous will inherit numerous worlds in the world to come. When I create a spiritual space, we call it 'firmament' or an 'expanse' in the upper world. This space I can then enter again and again and embellish it further with different forces and imaginations.
Dreams can provide similar ascents as visions, but in dreams the impressions we receive is mostly more blurred and unclear than the spiritual states we can achieve through meditation or study. In dreams, we're very receptive to thoughts and desires of other people. In dreams, we can attain knowledge from the lives of others, that we normally could not attain through the means of our five senses. Also, different beings of the upper worlds can reveal themselves in dreams. The modern phenomena of Alien abductions is something, that is happening at the transition between the state of waking and dreaming. Those beings live in another dimension, we often describe as 'the world of Yetzirah' in Kabbalah, and they affect our mental processes more than we might be aware of. At certain cases different 'chariots' of those beings make themselves visible to the physical eyes of humans, which we generally describe as 'UFO sightings'.
Our own world is interdimensional, and would we instantly see how many beings, that are invisible to the physical eye, are inhabiting our planet, we couldn't stand it, as the Zohar says. So we must begin to gradually expand our spiritual vessel to be able to attain a 'sixth sense' with which we become able to perceive spiritual phenomena.
